In West Bengal, elementary education is neither free nor fundamental

After publishing the news story below we submitted a letter on 9th April 2010 to Paschim Banga Sarva Shiksha Mission - the nodal organization to ensure universalization of elementary education, requesting them to reimburse the cost and send directions so that children are able to get free admission upto class VIII. The SSA authorities were very sympathetic and the State Project Director of West Bengal requested the Director of School Education, West Bengal to issue an order so that children are able to get free admission in schools. Burdwan Circuit House
The only thing happening on weekends in and around the Circuit House is cacophonic protests culminating in regular meeting of the representatives of polity in these volatile times. What we are left with is to assiduously guard our mandate to "remain true to our salt"....
